Onward Babe

Privacy

Onward Babe runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no login, and no database of users. This page describes exactly what happens, including the parts that are less than perfect.

What this site does not do

No cookies. No analytics. No advertising. No tracking pixels. The pages make no network calls of their own, with one exception: when you submit an email form, that form is sent to our email provider (below) — nothing you do here is reported anywhere. If that changes, this page changes first.

Your Path answers

If you tell us your age range, how long you've been trying, what testing you've had, your insurance situation or what you're here for, we treat that as fertility information, because that's what it is. It is used only to organize the page in front of you.

Those answers are held in your browser tab's temporary storage. They are never sent to us or to anyone else, and they are deleted when you close the tab. They are deliberately kept out of the web address, so a link you share or a screen someone glances at doesn't reveal them. Clear my answers on your Path erases them immediately.

Your appointment questions

Questions you add, ones you write yourself, and your notes are stored in this browser on this device so they're still there when you return. They are never transmitted. Clear everything on the appointment page deletes them, and so does clearing your browser data.

The PDF is built inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded to produce it, and we never see what's on it.

Email

There are two optional email forms, and both are sent to Kit, the service we use to send mail, and stored there.

The newsletter, What's Next, saves your email address and nothing else. We use it to send one email a month.

"Email me my appointment questions" on a checklist page saves your email address and which checklist you asked for — for example "IVF" or "Early pregnancy". Because that says something about your health, the form asks your permission for it with a checkbox, and it's never saved without that. We use it only to send you that checklist's link and to make What's Next relevant to where you are. Your Path answers are never sent — the link we email opens the checklist fresh.

We never sell it, rent it, or share it. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing deletes you from the list. Email us at the address below and we'll delete your record entirely, including which checklist you asked for.

Giving us an address is entirely optional. Nothing on this site is behind it, and we don't connect it to anything you do here — we couldn't, because nothing else you do here is recorded.

If you use Email me my questions on your own question list, the questions are sent to our own site's mail service and on to your inbox, and then they're gone: we keep no copy of them, and no record that you asked. Your email address is used only to address that one email — it is added to our list only if you also tick the box for What's Next.

Your story, if you send us one

The Share your story page has no story box on it. If you ask for the questions, all we save is your email address; what you write comes to us as an ordinary email, and it isn't stored on this website. Nothing is published unless you reply, you choose first name only or anonymous, you see the final version, and you can ask us to take it down at any time.

Fonts, and the one request that leaves your browser

Being precise, because "no third-party requests" would be easier to say than it is to be true: the site's typefaces are served by Google Fonts. Loading them means Google's servers receive your IP address and basic browser information, the same as on a large share of the web. Google states it does not use these requests to build advertising profiles. It is still a request we would rather not make, and we intend to serve the fonts from our own domain so it stops happening.

Links out to sources

Every claim links to its source — ACOG, PubMed, journals. Following one takes you to a site with its own policies and its own logging. We send those links with the referring page stripped, so the site you land on is not told which of our pages you came from.

Server logs

Like any website, this one is served by a hosting company that keeps standard server logs, typically including IP addresses, for security and reliability. We don't use those logs to identify or profile anyone, and we don't combine them with anything else.

What a web address reveals

Your answers are kept out of the address bar, but the address still names the page — a Path about pregnancy loss says so, the way any article's address names its subject. On a shared, borrowed or monitored device, that's worth knowing.

We don't sell anything about you

There is nothing to sell. No profiles, and nothing leaves this site except an email address you choose to give us. Should that ever change, it will be stated here plainly before it happens, not buried in an update.

Contact

Questions, or something on this page that doesn't match what you observe: [email protected]. If we've described something inaccurately, tell us and we'll correct it and say that we did.
